I fear if you invite me for dinner now....

This immediately became one of my favorites. Hannibal Lecter can move over, because Armin Meiwes is infinitely more frightening.
The entire incident is made fascinating by the book’s detail. Mr. Meiwes posted: “Looking for a well-built man, 18-30 years old, for slaughter,” on a gay Internet chat room catering (good pun, eh?) to cannibals. He received over 400 replies. But one in particular tickled his fancy. Bern Brandes wanted to be butchered and eaten. It was his ultimate desire.
Bern Brandes’ reply eventually led him to Meiwes’ desolate country house. There, the willing victim first said to the Maneater of Rotenburg, and I paraphrase, “Eat my penis. I want you to.”
Meiwes first tried to chew off his victim’s… piece. Encountering some hard resistance, he then went for a kitchen knife and… slish!.
After cooking the severed part, Meiwes filleted it and served it to both of them at a candlelit dinner table.
Fast forward some, Brandes is dead in a bathtub after Meiwes decides it’s time to “end his life peacefully and as painlessly as possible,” and stabs him in the throat.
Meiwes then skins and guts the corpse, in gruesome detail given by the book. After he has finished cleaning the man, he butchers the body into personal-sized filets of meat and puts them in his freezer… the only other “food” in there being a frozen pizza.
Fast forward some more, and Brandes’ absence has been noted. His partner (Brandes was gay as well) begins calling around.
The police, at first unaware that they have found their cannibal, question Meiwes as part of a standard investigation. He gives the police enough reason to suspect him. They search the house, obtaining only minor evidence that he MIGHT have been involved in Brandes’ death, but not the entire videotape of what happened to Brandes. Meiwes took extra care to see that was never found… at least by a routine search by police.
But it isn’t until Meiwes takes it upon himself to discuss what he has done and first calls his sister. “Listen… I’m in trouble,” he says. She first thinks her brother is into child pornography. Meiwes then tells her the real reason… and after a pause of silence, he hangs up the receiver. He then calls his lawyer, who convinces Meiwes to turn himself in. He does.
The police then return to his house in full force and conduct a thorough search. They find horrifically incriminating evidence, including the “torture lair” and butcher’s instruments used by Meiwes for his ultimate fantasy and meal. And the tiny pieces of Brandes in the freezer, which are DNA tested to confirm that they are, in fact human and what's left of Brandes.
Meiwes doesn’t resist arrest.
The sections discussing the trial are fascinating but I’ll paraphrase by saying that at the trial, Armin Meiwes looks like your normal guy. Well-dressed, fit… almost like he could be a friend. He even always spoke in a calm manner with his hands always crossed in front of him.
He is sentenced to 8 ? years for manslaughter. This was in 2002.
Manslaughter.
The judge concluded that this was not murder, on account of the willingness of the ‘victim’ and that there was no base motive… such as money.
But he could be out in 4 ? years as a free man due to good-behavior while in prison.
Bern Brandes.
The Maneater of Rotenburg, Armin Meiwes.
This incident worldwide news back in 2001-2002. Does anyone remember it?

About the only thing this has in connection with zombies is the eating of flesh.
Even then... it was cooked.
Zombies don't do that.

It could be accidental.
Like if they pull a corpse out of car that caught fire.
